The inauguration ceremony of the four new high-capacity gantry cranes and the extension of the stockage yard

On January 22, 2024 we had the official inauguration of four new “Malaccamax” STS to handle the new generation of Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCV) and the extension of the stacking area by the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr Ismail Omar Guelleh, alongside the Prime Minister, the Minister of Infrastructure and Equipment, the Chairman of DPFZA and our entire Management team.

We were honored to welcome government representatives, partners and our valued customers from Ethiopia and around the world. This remarkable achievement is the result of the unwavering support of the country’s highest authorities and DPZFA, whose collaboration was crucial to this success. With our enhanced capabilities, we are now fully prepared to efficiently handle larger vessels carrying up to 23,000 TEU, reinforcing Djibouti’s position as a leading regional hub for maritime trade, offering a unique presence at the heart of global container traffic with good maritime connectivity!

SGTD DORALEH TERMINAL ACHIEVES CONTAINER THROUGHPUT RECORD

The SGTD Doraleh Terminal achieved a historic milestone in October 2024 by surpassing 1 million TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) in just 10 months, marking the first time in its history. It demonstrates the terminal’s operational efficiency and adaptability, which are key to attracting diverse customers and maintaining a competitive advantage in the industry.

The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia paid his first visit to Djibouti and to the terminal. Accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising the Ambassador of Ethiopia to Djibouti H.E. Mr. Berhanu Tsegaye, the Ambassador of Djibouti to Ethiopia H.E. Mr. Abdi Mahamoud Heybe, the Chairman of the DPFZA Mr.Aboubaker Omar Hadi, the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, His Excellency Mr. Taye Atske-Selassie to the terminal marked a significant moment in the ongoing economic relations between the two nations.
The Doraleh Container Terminal, located along the Horn of Africa coastline, has long been a crucial piece of infrastructure facilitating the flow of goods in and out of Ethiopia, and this visit underscored its continued importance.
During the visit, the Minister and his delegation had the opportunity to witness the terminal’s operations and facilities, which is essential to supporting Ethiopia’s economic growth and connectivity to international markets.
