RECORD 110.000 TEUs!

The SGTD Team is thrilled to share with its customers (consignees/shippers & shipping lines) and other stakeholders that Doraleh Terminal has achieved a major milestone in its history, reaching a record of handling 110,000 TEUs in a single month (March 2024). This record is an important step for the terminal, demonstrating its capacity to handle large volume of cargos for different segments destination – gateway as well as transshipment.
This milestone achievement is a testimony of the relevancy of the vision of the country’s authorities and the support of the Djibouti Ports & Free Zones Authority, as well as the dedication and hard work of the SGTD Terminal team; and the recent investments in state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, particularly the new four (4) ULCV’s cranes and the 1st phase of the sea yard extension.
The SGTD Doraleh Terminal will continually increase its storage and throughput capacity during the next 6 years bringing the current operational capacity of 1.5M TEU in March 2024, to 3.5M TEU in 2030, with an immediate increase of 300k TEU (land yard extension) by December 2024, an additional +400k TEU by 2026 (sea yard extension) and finally the quay length extension and an additional sea yard expansion by 2030 to reach the target of 3.5M TEU.
The firm commitment in investing into the terminal capacity increase, and maintaining a high-level operational efficiency is aimed to ensure coping with the high growth perspective of the gateway market volume and enhance the growth of the transshipment activity, which in return should benefit to the gateway clients “consignees and shippers” by having more competitive sea freight rates.

The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia paid his first visit to Djibouti and to the terminal. Accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising the Ambassador of Ethiopia to Djibouti H.E. Mr. Berhanu Tsegaye, the Ambassador of Djibouti to Ethiopia H.E. Mr. Abdi Mahamoud Heybe, the Chairman of the DPFZA Mr.Aboubaker Omar Hadi, the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, His Excellency Mr. Taye Atske-Selassie to the terminal marked a significant moment in the ongoing economic relations between the two nations.
The Doraleh Container Terminal, located along the Horn of Africa coastline, has long been a crucial piece of infrastructure facilitating the flow of goods in and out of Ethiopia, and this visit underscored its continued importance.
During the visit, the Minister and his delegation had the opportunity to witness the terminal’s operations and facilities, which is essential to supporting Ethiopia’s economic growth and connectivity to international markets.

Delegation of Saudi businessmen

A high-level delegation of prominent Saudi businessmen visited the terminal, accompanied by Aboubaker Omar Hadi, the chairman of the DPFZA. This esteemed group of industry leaders came to tour the state-of-the-art facilities and engage in discussions about potential partnership and growth opportunities.
For the Saudi delegation, this visit represented a chance to witness firsthand the terminal’s impressive scale and capabilities. Through the presentation with the terminal’s management, the businessmen gained valuable insights into the port’s future development plans and investment prospects, leaving with a deeper understanding of how SGTD’s strategic location and world-class infrastructure.
Overall, the delegation’s tour underscored the shared interests linking the Arabian Gulf and the markets of the region.

Visit of the President of the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia

On May 16, 2024, we had the privilege of hosting the President of the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Mr. Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur, alongside his delegation led by his Djiboutian counterpart, His Excellency Mr. Dileita Mohamed Dileita. The management team of SGTD welcomed the delegation by offering comprehensive insights into the operations including our state-of-the-art facilities and efficient management systems and was followed by a guided tour of the quay and train station.
